Over the last month or so I’ve been talking about your email and how to start to manage it better and today, I’m really going to amp it up and show you exactly how I manage the flow of messages that pour into my inboxes.
I shared before how I’ve moved my email to gmail and how I wouldn’t go back for the world. Now, I’m going to share my secrets for using gmail and related/connectable apps to keep it under control!
Mailbox is single handedly the MOST used app on my phone and it wouldn’t be possible if I didn’t already use gmail to manage my business emails.
Why do I ADORE Mailbox?
- No more lost or forgotten emails
- Inbox ZERO is a REALISTIC goal (and achieved at least weekly if not daily)
- Did I mention a clean inbox? Without losing or forgetting an email? 😉 GAH! So amazing!
The brilliance of Mailbox is that it allows me to QUICKLY push email to pop back later today, tomorrow, in a week, or at a specified time. So emails that don’t need attention RIGHT NOW can be rescheduled for when I have time to deal with them or when they’ll be needed.
Not only can I swipe to set when an email returns to my inbox, I can easily add emails to my choice of lists such as:
- to read
- to watch
- to buy
And I can create my own so that filtering is intuitive, simple, and dead fast.
Add to all of that how simple it is to delete emails (SWIPE!) and you’ve got a mega winner. If I could have only ONE app on my iPhone, Mailbox would be it. Period.
My inbox used to be a FLOOD of emails constantly and the fact that I only check my inbox twice a day meant an OVERWHELMING amount of mail each and every time I opened it. Talk about draining! I was spending HOURS just trying to stay on top. Sure, I have filters but emails I really wanted to see but weren’t critical were getting lost in the mess too.
In comes Unroll.me
In a flash, it identified over 150 subscriptions in my inbox! YIKES! No wonder if always felt out of control!
A few minutes later, I’d ‘rolled’ all the emails I like to see but don’t want clogging my inbox and unsubscribed to who knows how many more.
Now, once a day, I receive a beautiful SINGLE digest email with a snapshot of all those emails I like to see and read but were cumbersome to deal with. And if I want to read one, all I have to do is click. Best of all, every “rolled up” email is still in your email, safely stored under the unroll folder.
It is such a breath of fresh air AND I look forward to seeing what has been collected every day for me. It’s like a prize for having a clean inbox!
While I have other awesome tips for managing your inbox and overflowing emails, Mailbox and Unroll.me are by far my favorites. Oh-and if you don’t have an iPhone, try the email game. It’s like mailbox only it’s timed and perfect for quickly getting through the stacks.
Now, go forth and have a clean inbox!
